Class bonding. An activity I said.
I shudder when they said BBQ.
BBQ = Mess = Raw Food Mishandling = No clean water = Heavy equipment carrying. I hear myself screaming out loud inside me that says, how about something else!!!
I mustered my courage and said okay so be it. If that's what you want.
A committee was formed. I told them to order food online so that it would be easier.
When I turned up, I saw hamper of gifs well wrapped up for the games.
I saw home marinated food all on the table. I saw fried bee hoon, kwey teow well lined up. I asked, how come you guys didn't order online?
Teacher, expensive lah, we can do it ourself and save money. I blame myself for even suggesting the short cut and am glad they did it themselves.
I laughed when they played silly games.
I saw them eating the food that didn't looked quite impressively BBQed with their thumbs up filled with silly happiness and their constant fights over prawns and chicken wings.
I saw them running after Maoster and making sure the sand or the wave did not get to him and for almost 3 hrs they had to be at the sand cos maoster refused to leave.
They may be labelled the bottom 20% of the society (intellectually) ;they may not be as docile or as tame as your normal teenager. But, in them I see God. I see Hope. I see Love.
The whole gang! (plus some missing sheeps somewhere)I shudder when they said BBQ.
